The “CABC” started off as the Cederberg Adventure Bike Challenge, organized by Hennie Lowe in 2008. It was a 4 day event for Adventure bikes complete with Red, Orange and Green route outrides, skill challenges on laid out courses, the works. The annual event moved locations and the name changed to the Cape Adventure Bike Challenge when it moved to Uhuru (the current Karoowater) in the Klein Karoo.

In 2020 Johann van Tonder, previous event media liaison, became co-coordinator with the view to take over from Hennie Lowe as he planned to emigrate. Johann van Tonder (Trailrider Media Events) became sole owner and organizer in 2021.

Smaller events and challenges were added in 2022 under the CABC brand that kept the local bikers busy and looking forward to some great prizes all year. And while the Cape Adventure Bike Challenge is very much focused on Adventure Bikes, the other challenges and events included all bike types.

“The feeling when you ride is like no other feeling. You feel free from the world, you feel unstoppable, riding is a passion, it’s a joy, it’s a stress reliever, it’s a way of life. ”

The CABC format changed too. The truth is the market got saturated with Dual Sport events, and the costs were exorbitant too. Instead of forking out thousands of Rands to sit in one venue with a couple of rides and skills challenges, why not challenge yourself with a real adventure!

The CABC is still a 4 day event, but the date is totally flexible. In fact, you choose the dates yourself and entry is FREE! The cost and type of accommodation is also totally up to you, so this challenge can cater for both big and smaller budgets.

The Challenge will run over the period of a year, October to September of the following year, after which the new Cape Adventure Bike Challenge will be announced.
