RIDDLERS START YOUR ENGINES
CAN YOU SOLVE ALL THE RIDDLES???
BETTER HURRY....
TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!
This is something completely different. The GRM Riddle Ride Challenge will be the 3rd event for 2022. Registrations will open on 15 March 2022. Contestant numbers can be collected from GRM from 28 March 2022 and the Challenge will run from the 1st of April to the end of May.
The Riddle Ride will consist of six riddles, revealed over a period of six weeks. The first riddle will be posted on this page on 1 April 2022.
The aim is to unravel the riddle, using the clues contained in the riddle, to figure out where the location described by the riddle is. You will then do an outride to this spot and photograph the point of interest along with your bike and ride sticker.
Each week on the Thursday a new riddle will be released, for six weeks. Please don’t reveal the solution of any riddle by posting it on Social Media! Photos must be sent to the administrator via WhatsApp at 083 355 7485 (photos might be used on our website later).
So what happens if I can’t figure out the riddles?
Two weeks before the challenge is to end and a week after the last riddle has been posted, on the 12th of May, the solutions and locations will be revealed on this page. Contestants who could not solve any or all of the riddles will then have the remainder of May to ride to and photograph the riddle locations. All contestants who have photos of all six spots, regardless of when in April/May they were taken, qualify for the lucky draw and stand to win some awesome prizes. There is a bonus prize for the Club with most finishers (Official clubs as registered on motorcyclists.co.za).
Riders can have their bikes pre inspected free of charge at GRM at any time before the ride. Registration is essential to enter this challenge.
PLEASE NOTE: IN THIS CHALLENGE THE PHOTOS ARE NOT TO BE POSTED PUBLICLY.

Solve the riddles to reveal the secret locations
RIDDLE 1
We will begin as easy as can be
with the biggest, biggest tree.
In the Wildernis down a serpentine road,
it’s about 12 and a half clicks I’m told.
A sign will say left, to a walk in the park.
The tree you can see might be as old as the Ark!
RIDDLE 2
I was the Lawman, this was the land…
I was supposed to be a warrior for the good and just.
An exhibition of youth and health in Mossel Bay
commemorating a 500th anniversary of Diaz’s day.
A mountain pass, a broken bus. The hopes and dreams of 13 young souls turned to dust.
A permanent memorial, to remember those lost to us.
RIDDLE 3
Named after Ds Johannes Rudolph Albertyn my town is known for it’s Aloe.
I might be on the sidewalk, but I’m ready for the show.I reside in Station road and have solid wheels, but I am not a train.
I have a little roof, but it won’t keep out much rain.I have only three wheels, so neither a car, nor a bike I can be.
The plaque on my side will tell you all about me!
RIDDLE 4
Years ago, before 1883
the most dangerous thing here was not the sea!
With a mighty bang, the last buffalo fell.
Now you are free to walk, maybe pick up a shell.
If you get on this bus you might get a ride.
Even though this bus has no wheels on the side?
To find this easy riddle won’t be a big fight.
As you ride in, just look on the right!
RIDDLE 5
I was a “Jongeling”, this little town was named after me.
A fugitive at Flip se Baai, I fled into the sea.
Tried to hide behind a prominent stone
only to be shot here, to die on my own.
To find this spot, look for a Soldier (or a Baboon Finger?)
If you do geocaching, a while you might linger.
But beware if you look for this touristy spot.
Flip se Baai in the Eastern Cape it is not!
A little bit West of the Bay that is Still
In Strand str on the bend, take a pic if you will!
RIDDLE 6
In a mythical land of make believe
but also in the real world a story was weaved. A place of very big birds that can not fly
and stories of a mermaid, my oh my! An important man lived, he liked to write
Not all was true though, to my spite. He had a big tram, that had to be drawn by a very big beast.
The beast was made up, but his name was real at least. The name was engraved, immortalized in stone
like early graffiti near the start of a poort, forever to be known. Now a national monument, and our last riddle and rhyme. A name on a stone, that will stand the test of time!
